In 1928 and 1931, Archaeologist Samuel K. Lothrop and his wife Eleanor Lothrop lived in Santiago Atitlan while he was attempting to conduct arquaeological research in the Atitlan area (published in 1933 Lothrop, Samuel K.  Atitlan: an archaeological study of ancient remains on the borders of Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Carnegie Institution of Washington, Publication # 444. Washington, D.C.).

He took a set of photographs of the town and countryside. these are supplemented with various pictures taken by Alfred V. Kidder in the late 30's and early 40's. These are all stored at the Harvard University VIA(Visual Information Access) along with all the old Carnegie Institution of Washington archives. These are property of the President and Fellows of Harvard College
