Welcome to Maximon's shrineMaximon has granted many favors to many people. There are those who are totally devoted to the Maximon cult. When you visit him, he likes it when you light a candle, smoke a cigar, or offer him a drink. We have put together our virtual shrine so that people who are not from Santiago can make offerings to the Rilaj Mam. You can enter the Cofradia here:When we first put up this page we set up a way for folks to send an offering to the Rilaj Mam ( a candle $5, a cigar $10, or a bottle of Quetzalteca $15). We would send whatever was offered to the cofradia in Santiago to present it to the actual Maximon. we were donating whatever funds were left over to a local charity. Since there are people in Atitlan who don't understand the concept of altruism and who look for bad in everything, a rumor was started that claimed that the directors of the institution that we donated the funds to had gotten rich from the donations to the Virtual Maximon shrine......(because of this problem they have asked us to remove their name from this page). The reality is that, in the five years that the Virtual Maximon has been online the total take has been less than $150. So, to eliminate this problem, you can now send the Rilaj Mam a candle, a cigar, or a bottle of Quetzalteca for free. Of course, I will no longer take an actual offering to the cofradia in Santiago, but your offering will appear in the Virtual Cofradia.
